In this case, Ben & Jerry’s is marketing their light ice cream because it’s lower in fat and calories than their original ice cream.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ A lot of people are drawn to this ice cream because it’s “light”. I’m not saying that’s necessarily a bad thing- if you want a lighter version of Ben & Jerry’s, this is a good choice. But too many people automatically gravitate to it because of the label.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ On the flip side, I’m willing to bet that a lot of you out there wouldn’t even consider buying an Oreo ice cream. It’s not labeled as light or low calorie, and we all know that Oreos aren’t the lowest calorie snack out there.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ And yet, if you compare the nutrition of these, they are very similar. If you ONLY looked at the nutritional info, you’d believe that they were both light ice cream.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ This is why you need to learn to read nutrition labels and not rely on the front labels. Marketing is a powerful thing, and companies can get you to think whatever they want you to think! Relying solely on nutritional information + ingredients will help you avoid these traps.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Side note- Breyer’s isn’t my favorite ice cream in the world, but this specific flavor is. 🌱 What the message should have been from The Game Changers!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Plants 🍆 Good!⁣⁣ Carbs 🍞 Good!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Instead, Game Changers presents a choice:⁣⁣ 🌿 Vegan and Healthy.⁣⁣ 🍔 Eat animal products and sick.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ This false dichotomy (false choice between two things) is its main issue.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It's false for two reasons:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 1️⃣ It pretends that it's comparing vegan to an omnivorous diet. In reality most of the time what it's actually doing is comparing "plant-based" to just about the worst diet you can think of - a fast-food, high fat, high sugar, low thought diet, that happens to also include animal products.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 2️⃣ There's a third option - eat more plants... Be plant BASED, while also including animal products if you like.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🏥 The health benefits are from increased plant intake, not reduced animal intake.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🏅 Performance increases are likely from increased carb intake and also likely from actually giving a shit about your diet for the first time!⁣⁣ ⁣ This thinking applies to so many things in life! People will try to convince you there are only two options all the time, whether they know they're being lying shits or not. Consider if there's a third!⁣ ⁣ The middle ground isn't as sexy, moderation isn't as easy to sell as the extremes - but it's often more correct!⁣ ⁣⁣ 🔬 I'm not going to get into how scientifically accurate this documentary is or is not. NO WASTE CARROT PULP GRANOLA 🥕 I’ve been trying to reduce my food waste as much as possible, but one thing that has been slipping is pulp from my juicer. 🥤Admittedly this isn’t an item most people have in their kitchens, so even in being able to create this waste I’m in a position of privilege. However, if you have a juicer, or just a glut of carrots that you want to get a bit creative with, then give this recipe a go! So I've put together a list of habits for you to incorporate into your day that are essential for fat loss. - Leafy greens and vegetables are a great source of fibre, and provide you with the micronutrients that you need to keep everything flowing well in your body! - Protein is essential for building and maintaining muscle which will indirectly increase your metabolic rate. Both of these types of food will keep you feeling fuller for longer! - Lifting weights, is essential to burning calories, increasing muscle mass, and increasing bone density. Not to mention the effect it has on your physique, and the way you feel. - Grazing is the downfall of many people trying to lose weight. Limit grazing by having set meal times and only eating during those meal times. Count every time you eat as a meal! - Being generally active is a great way to burn extra calories throughout the day. Make sure you get at least 10,000 steps in each day! - Last but definitely not least, make sure you're drinking enough fluid throughout the day. The effect that this has on your mind and body is INSANE. You will feel much more energetic and sharp if you're well hydrated. If you’re familiar with my work you know I’m definitely not anti-vegan or plant-based diets, so this is NOT a post against veggies. 🌱 BUT I am definitely against pseudo-science and fear mongering used to make a point. ❌ . Now, here’s the magical recipe for a perfect Netflix documentary like Game Changers: (sarcasm mode: ON) . 1️⃣ A compelling STORY. This story is about a modern day gladiator (aka UFC champion) realising he’s been wrong his whole life about eating meat to get super strong. . 2️⃣ Loads of scientific papers and headlines thrown at the viewers face, whilst story teller frenetically types on his laptop keyboard as he unravels the mysteries of nutrition science. DO NOT talk about quality of the research papers, or you may ruin the whole recipe. . 3️⃣ A pinch of fear mongering, preferably delivered by old white men wearing white coats. Show people a basic physiological process (fat from food absorbed into the bloodstream) and twist it to make it super scary. 👨🏻‍🔬 . 4️⃣ Throw in some anecdotes validating your point - preferably from famous athletes who are vegan. DO NOT mention their potential conflict of interests. Bonus point if you can make the testimonials emotional 😢 . 5️⃣ Find a VILLAIN who wants you to stay unhealthy: big meat, big pharma, the illuminatis… The bigger, the better 👐🏻 . 6️⃣ Cherry on the top 🍒: find out what your target audience is interested in and use it to manipulate them. If you’re trying to convince a bunch of muscular men to eat more veggies… Tell them it’ll make their 🍆 work better! . (sarcasm mode: OFF) This may seem harsh, but honestly I can’t take anymore of the BS. Please please PLEASE talk to a registered dietitian/nutritionist to get info about food and diets 🙏🏻 . .

Why is time going so fast??!!😅🥵 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Another monday has been and gone already! Literally feel like time is flying by atm 🌪 I’m soooo busy both at work and at home trying to keep on top of my side hussle ✍🏻🐶 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Having to re jig my workouts this week since I’m away for 2 days so I hit up a quad focused leg day today by @abtransformationtraining , then I’ll be doing full body tomorrow before 2 rest days 🤪 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sometimes your routine can be out of whack for a while but managing your time and prioritising is so much more important that ticking off all your daily goals and burning yourself out 🥵 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anyone else feel like the time is just going too fast? I’ve not even started my Christmas shopping yet 🙃

Many people think that CICO just means you count calories, and then you track how many calories you burn during exercise. . Some of the low carb community & Keto zealots will tell you that calorie counting is pointless because you cannot perfectly track calories in & that calorie expenditure trackers like Fitbits are hugely inaccurate, so its pointless and you should instead focus on hormones & insulin and sugar intake and thyroid & gut microbiome, etc, etc, blah, blah . "So you're saying because we can't track something exactly that maybe we shouldn't bother tracking at all?" . Yes. You cannot track energy expenditure perfectly unless you have a metabolic ward. No, you cannot track calories perfectly. Yes, food labels have a certain amount of error . You may not count calories and in fact you may be able to lose weight just fine without counting calories, but whether or not you count calories, calories always count. . Any sort of diet that causes weight loss or any supplement or any protocol you want to imagine either does so because it decreases hunger and you consume less calories or leads to you increasing your total daily energy expenditure. . Just because you don't track calories and lost weight or just because you can't track them exactly doesn't mean calories in, calories out doesn't work. . You eat more calories than you need/expend each day & you gain weight. You eat less calories than your body needs/burns each day & you lose weight. It may not be easy to do, but it is as simple as that, regardless what diet protocol you choose to follow (low carb, keto, paleo, vegan, fasting, etc) . If the goal is fat loss, pay attention to the overall calorie deficit, not when and how you achieve it. .

The other was allowed up to 8 hours 30 minutes.⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ The low sleep group averaged 5 hours 15 minutes asleep, whereas the high sleep group averaged 7 hours 25 minutes.⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ Both groups lost about 3kg weight during the 2 weeks.⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ However, in the low sleep group 80% of that weight was muscle!⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ The high sleep group did a lot better with 52% came from muscle.⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ Still very high, but remember they weren't doing any weight training to preserve their muscle tissue.⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ This is also interesting as it's common to hear people say that overweight individuals do not need to worry about muscle loss - this study suggests otherwise!⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠⠀ The study was conducted in 2010 by Nedeltcheva, and is titled for 'Insufficient sleep undermines dietary efforts to reduce adiposity.'
