Non posso non pensare a chi in poche ore ha perso tutto, davanti a questo stesso cielo. Pochi chilometri, un destino così differente. It’s funny how much mountains have seen – if they had eyes that is. When you’re against big mighty mountains and you’re just one little person you realise the scale things are on. We have relatively short lives and the earth will (hopefully) continue to change its shape and carve out new mountains long after us. Life is ours for the taking – there’s not another go, and we deserve a good one. Whatever has happened in your past, whatever challenges you’ve got, you can overcome them. You aren’t bound by the things you think about yourself (I’m dumb, not very interesting, I’m not that good with people) – they are just thoughts, and we can all generate new and useful ones. That’s the beauty of the brain. What is stillness to you? _ When I teach I try not to say anything that I myself haven’t really gabbed the concept of, although sometimes this is tricky as our understanding changes and the more you know, the less you seem to understand 😂 _ As teachers we are on a constant journey to bring stillness into our classes and to create space for stillness for our students. _ I asked myself the other day, “What is stillness?” This is what I came up with: _ Busy-ness in the mind can feel and look like a stormy sea with ferocious waters. Unable to see anything other than chaos, no clarity provoking fear and anxiety. _ Stillness (to me) is like a still river or ocean. The water is still moving, it has life and there is still energy moving through it but it is still. You can see through the water, perhaps even wild life and you feel calm. What do you do to calm your anxiety? . Self-care is not negotiable for me. . When I feel my stress levels are interfering with my emotional and physical wellbeing I choose to PAUSE and recalibrate. . This is the moment when I know I need to slow down and create SPACE for restoration and self-love. . This is here when I particularly pay attention to my BREATH. ♒︎ ✧Diaphragmatic Breathing✧ is one of the most basic, simple and yet powerful breathing techniques to helping regulate and calm our nervous system. . When you take short, sharp shallow breaths, your Sympathetic Nervous System  is activated, whereas when you breathe diaphragmatically – moving your belly in and out with each breath – you communicate to every cell in your body that you are safe, at ease. . ➺How to do Diaphragmatic Breathing? 1. Simply lie on the floor or take a comfortable sitting position with your spine long. 2. Place your hands on your belly with a very gentle touch. Or one hand on your belly and the other in the center of your chest. 3. Take slow inhales through your nostrils extending your belly with the inhale. Feel your hands gently rising up while you expand your belly (as a balloon expanding through your hands). 4. Exhale slowly through your nostrils as your belly shrinks back towards your spine (like deflating the ballon). 5. Gently feel the pause between each breath. 6. Repeat this 10 times or until you feel your breath is slow, long and smooth and your mind feels at ease.. .
