Crushed banana with sweet Koji and mushed avocado with shio (salt) Koji over toasted bread. I didn’t think deeply before making this, but it turned out a success!! When banana and avocado become too ripe, you can use them with fermented condiments using Koji! As both sweet and salty tastes are juxtaposed on the toast, I enjoyed both tastes in alternate! It pays to decompress. . . I used to be all work and no play. My mentality was that if I was awake I could be improving myself, pushing further in my goals and making more money to set myself up for the future. . . But I realized this past year that I wasn’t in love with my life. All work and no play means that both friendships and family get pushed to the wayside and having two days off in a row is an anomaly. It’s draining. . . It’s also less productive. You can only run your burners on high for so long before one kicks out. I realized my quality of work and life was going downhill which is when I took a step back and re-evaluated how I was approaching my personal life, fitness goals and business. . . Vacation, sleep, relaxation, down time-is VERY important. I’ve started dedicating more time to myself this past year, and actually given myself a set schedule which has done wonders for my mental health. I’m also able to work harder when I am and in turn continue to progress my goals at a steady rate. . . You’re not a machine and we don’t all work the same. You evolve and change throughout your life and so do your needs. . . If you’re feeling burnt out it might be time to take a step back and reassess what YOU need.
If you want to improve overall complexion, clear up acne, reduce appearance of wrinkles or manage dry/oily skin, it’s SO important to address this from the inside out. The above are the most important elements when it comes to skin health + I’ve broken down the ‘why’ below: FOODS & LIQUIDS: • Water, water, water: quite a common theme right?! Hydration is KEY. It plays a vital role in flushing toxins and in cellular energy production (the better your cells can produce energy, the better the turn over in new cells to replenish). • Green tea: one of the most powerful antioxidant liquids you can consume. I’ll post more on this later. • Fermented foods: Its ALL about gut health and making sure there’s enough good bacteria going around to ensure proper assimilation/absorption of vital nutrients & vitamins. • Other suggested foods: all contain important fatty acids (omega 3 & 6) to keep the pores hydrated and supple from the inside out as well as antioxidants that fight off free radicals. SUPPLEMENTS: • Fish oil: the same reason you eat oily fish, the essential fatty acids from omega 3 (DHA & EPA) and 6 are the vital building blocks for healthy cell membranes. • Vitamin E & C: required for the formation of healthy connective tissue to maintain collagen stores + aides in clearing out toxins and heavy metals that contribute to rapid ageing and appearance of wrinkles. • Zinc: another powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals and promotes healing of skin tissues due to its anti-inflammatory properties. • CoQ12: I can’t speak highly enough about this. It’s vital in the production of energy within the cells (to replenish and replace old, damaged cells) whilst also protecting them from oxidative damage.
