Today at school I was lucky enough to get to take 15 students from my Nutrition and Fitness class to @h4training then to Mariano’s grocery store. They were able to take part in an amazing workout and learn from fitness professional how important moving you body is. Then we had the opportunity to meet with a registered dietician and do a fun scavenger hunt to prove that eating nutritious food is not out of your budget! So proud of the great attitude and willingness to work hard and listen to the wonderful professionals we have the privilege to meet with today! #h4 #fitness #gbn #highschoolfieldtrip

One of the biggest takeaways from our latest Green Beauty Night panel discussion - there is an overwhelming amount of misinformation in the #greenbeauty space which is making things incredibly challenging for everyone. When I talk to people about the environmental impacts of cosmetic products, the first comments I usually get is that 'these natural products are 'greener' and safer' - a myth that is perpetuated online. In contrast, in many cases, this idea couldn't be farther from the truth. More than that, there are so many other dimensions to the sustainability of a product, packaging being a significant one. • • I think a big challenge is that scientists often stay behind closed doors and those that are the most vocal online, often with the biggest platforms, are often people who are misinformed themselves. For example, I don't know of another consumer-facing panel on the topic of green or safe cosmetics that actually features real scientists. Note, using a lot of products does not make you a scientist. Being a brand founder doesn't either - most times they will contract scientists like myself to help with the product development, which is totally the right call.... claiming to have expertise that you don't on the other hand... This is a problem. If we want to actually do better, we have to be looking to evidence-driven metrics to help us do so, instead of what we have been doing - making quick superficial moves to appease consumer trends born out of misinformation. • • My goal with @greenbeautynight is to help redirect the conversation. In my next few posts, I'll be publishing videos from the Toronto panel presentation - such a valuable discussion filled with important information for anyone in our industry, from brands to formulators to consumers.
